Where Are Fairy Tong Dresses Really Made?

You’ve asked us before: if Fairy Tong is a UK brand, why aren’t our dresses made in the UK?

Behind every Fairy Tong dress are hours of skilled craftsmanship, specialist fabrics and careful development. We wanted to share a little more about where our dresses are made, and why.

The Labour

One Fairy Tong dress can take 14–16 hours just to make.

Experienced bridal seamstresses in London can charge around £18–£25/hour.

That’s roughly £252–£400 in labour alone — before fabric, sampling, hand-finishing and overheads.

The Fabric

Some of our dresses use 8–12 yards of main fabric — from embroidered tulle and sequins to exclusive printed organza and premium cotton.

Then there can be another 10–20 yards of layered tulle or organza underneath to create that Fairy Tong volume and movement.

The fabric cost adds up long before we sew a single stitch.

The Samples

A finished dress can take months before you ever see it online.

Sketching. Fabric sourcing. First sample. Fittings. Changes. Another sample. More changes…

Something I learnt the hard way as a designer: all that development time is part of the true cost too.

The Prices

And here’s something we probably haven’t talked about enough…

Some of our signature styles were created in 2020–2021, and we’ve kept their prices almost unchanged for 6 years, even while our own costs increased so much.

Because I’ve always wanted Fairy Tong to stay within reach of as many fairies as possible.

Why China?

Because we’re proud to be Made in China.

We work with a small family-run factory with 25+ years of bridal-making experience.

Skilled makers. Beautiful craftsmanship. Fair local pay.

Not anonymous mass production.

If we made the same dresses in the UK...

The prices would be dramatically higher.

With specialist labour, fabrics, sampling and handwork, many designs would move into a completely different price bracket.

And that would mean fewer fairies could wear them.

The Affordability

I think about that a lot.

Slow fashion and skilled craftsmanship will never match fast fashion prices.

Keeping Fairy Tong within reach of as many fairies as possible has always mattered to me. Working with our atelier lets us create beautifully detailed dresses without pushing them into a completely different price bracket..

Made with care, wherever in the world that may be.

For me, it has never been about a country on a label. It's about the people, craftsmanship and care behind every dress.

And I'm incredibly proud of the people who make Fairy Tong possible. ♡
